Oil Pulling

After quite some time of saying I wanted to try it…I finally decided to take the plunge.  I have now joined the ranks of those who oil pull.

Oil pulling is basically swishing oil around in your mouth.  This process can help cut through plaque and remove toxins.  There are some pretty impressive stories as to the benefits of oil pulling, ranging from improved gum health to relieving headaches.

My endeavors began on March 2.  All I do is take a small spoonful of coconut oil and swish it around in my mouth.  Ideally, it should be done for about 20 minutes.  So far I typically make it 15-18.  The hardest parts for me are the beginning (as the coconut oil first goes in my mouth) and the end (once I have a bigger amount of liquid I am swishing due to saliva build up).  In order to get my mind off of it (which helps relieve gagging 😉 ), I try to oil pull while cleaning the house, watching a movie, or working on a project.

We’ll see what kind of results I get!  I did some googling and found lists of what oil pulling can supposedly help with.  Here are my symptoms that I would love to see results with.

-cavity on one of my top front teeth
-sensitivity on lower back teeth
-yellow teeth
-white gums around teeth
-sinus congestion
-low energy

I am currently 9 days in.  Yesterday (day 8) I did not oil pull.

Days 1-4 the tooth with my cavity was throbbing after swishing.
About Day 4 I noticed an increase in tooth sensitivity….my top teeth were now feeling sensitive as well.
Day 7 – the cavity felt different.  Hopefully getting smaller?
Day 8 – sensitivity on top teeth seems to be gone.
– definite decrease in the whiteness on gums

We’ll see what happens as I keep this up!

Have you tried oil pulling?  Had any results?
