Give Yourself Grace –  “You don’t have to do everything. You don’t have to change everything about yourself. You don’t have to do better, try harder, sacrifice more.”

I Signed Up for This – SO encouraging to remember.  While written for Moms, it applies to any season of life.

Two Years – Reflecting on her two years of marriage and what she has learned. “The problem about movies is that most people want to be entertained by watching extraordinary things on film, but in marriage you can’t love extraordinarily until you have learned how to love ordinarily, and nobody makes movies about the ordinary.”

Before You Were Mommy – Great post on who you were before you were Mommy.

Home Birth Vs. Hospital Birth: YOU’RE MISSING THE POINT, PEOPLE – “For real people making real choices, let’s open up the discussion with compassion instead of trying to choke it to death.  Transparency and collaboration can make birth safer in all of these settings, but it can’t happen in a hostile environment.  If we can let go of our own biases of where women “should” give birth, maybe we can start making birth safer in all of those locations.”

Liebster Blog Award

Wow!!  We got nominated for the Liebster Blog award!  Thank you so much to The Crum’s!

The Liebster award is given to bloggers who are still considered “new” and it’s a way for them to gain more followers and confidence! It’s the blogosphere’s way of saying…Welcome! 🙂
Liebster is a German word meaning sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing and welcome.
Here are the rules!
1. Post the award on your blog.
2. Thank the blogger that nominated you and link back to their blog.
3. Write 11 random facts about yourself.
4. Nominate 11 bloggers who you feel deserve this award and have less than 1000 followers.
5. Answer 11 questions posted by your presenter and ask your nominees 11 questions.

My 11 Facts
1. I used to never like cheese (except provolone in some situations).  In fact, it made me nauseous.  Now I can stomach it sometimes, in sandwiches or in casseroles.

2. I still listen to Adventures in Odyssey sometimes.

3. If I had tons of money, I would go to Hobby Lobby and Kirkland’s and decorate my house most awesomely!

4. I own over 300 books.

5. Rome, Israel, and Colombia are at the top of my list of places to visit.

6. Being a Mom is the most difficult yet most wonderful thing I have ever done.

7. I enjoy warmer weather.  90-95 is a great temperature.

8. I am a huge fan of Ebates!  Shop online and get cash back!  (I promise, it’s not a scam.  My second check is about to be mailed to me.)  Saving money makes me so excited!!  Sign up here!  (Note: If you use my referral link, I get a referrer bonus)

9. I was homeschooled through high school and loved it.

10. Dogs are my favorite.  And llamas.  Llamas are my favorite too.

11. My favorite color is green.

My answers to The Crum’s questions:

1. Where is your happy place?
Ideally, a nice quiet spot outdoors with a cup of coffee, my Bible, a notebook, and a couple other good books to read.

2. What is the craziest thing that has ever happened to you?
Hmm.  There was the time (way before I was pregnant) where my credit card was stolen and used to hire a babysitter.  Or the time that a little girl in the Costco bathroom asked me if I was the girl who played Hermione.  But neither of those are too crazy. 😉

3. What is your favorite memory?
I have so many wonderful memories, I don’t know how to pick just one.  Highlights include…saying “I do” and the moment our son was born.

4. What is your favorite hobby?
I enjoy hiking and writing. 🙂

5. What do you want people to remember you for?
For always being an encouragement and pointing people to Him.  I know I need to work on those things!

6. What era do you wish you lived in?
Hmm.  There are pros and cons to every era. 😉  If I had to pick, I would say either Bible times or the 1800s.  But I love this era, too. 🙂

7. What advice would you give your 16 year old self?
Stop being so melodramatic!

8. What is your favorite holiday?

9. What would you do if you won the lottery?
Give it away.  Help get clean water to people around the world.  Help feed the poor.  Sponsor more children from Compassion.  And, I’ll be honest, I would probably use some money to buy new clothes. 😉

10. What is your biggest fear?
That I will fail my son.  In honesty, I know that I will.  But I also know that God will never fail him.

11. Do you hang your toilet paper over or under??

My questions for my nominees:
1. What is your biggest pet peeve?
2.  If you could give one piece of life advice, what would it be?
3. What is your favorite blog to read?
4. Clowns – scary or awesome?
5. If you could have dinner with 3 people, alive or dead, who would it be and why?
6. What one thing are you most excited about right now?
7. If you had an entire afternoon with nothing planned, how would you spend your time?
8. What is your favorite movie?
9. What is your favorite quote?
10. Organic food – worth all the hype or not?

We are also an Air Force family!  The Pilot has blogged a
few times about our current life as he goes through
pilot training.  In the next few months, Bonnie will also
be blogging about pilot training from a wife’s perspective!

Feel free to scroll through our blog or look at the categories
on the right.  Or check out some of our popular/favorite posts, such as
the Pilot’s posts on pilot training,
Awareness, An Open Letter to  {Christian} Military Wives,

Advice for New Moms.

I thought I would change things up some and have
a little interview so you can get to know us better!

1. Where are you from?
We are both from Southern California, just north of Los Angeles.
Bonnie would love to settle there someday but

Bonnie: Dogs and llamas.

4. What is the most adventurous thing you’ve done?
The Pilot: Flying formation within ten feet of another
Bonnie: In 2008, I hiked Mt. Whitney in CA….the
tallest mountain in the continental US.

5. When you were younger, what did you want to be when
you grew up?
The Pilot: A pilot.
Bonnie: Through the years, I’ve wanted to be an
Olympic ice skater, concert pianist,
an author, checker at Vons, a newspaper
columnist, missionary to Colombia, wife and Mom

And a few random facts about us….

The Pilot:

1. I vehemently hate snakes.

2. I am a huge Stargate fan.

I’ve also been to Europe (Romania and the Netherlands)

Things People Google

I find it interesting to see the Google searches that bring people to our blog.  Sometimes they make sense and sometimes…..I’m left scratching my head.  Here are some of the things people have searched for.

  • “Pregnancy Update week 12.”  I’m not sure why week 12 gets the most searches, but….it does.  We also get lots of pregnancy search variations.
  • “Super Woman Versus Abiding Woman.”  Interestingly enough, this is one of the posts that gets the most traffic from Google.
  • “Long toenails.”  Yes, you read that right.  Long toenails.  When I first saw that one, I could NOT figure out how in the world someone came to our blog from that search!  (Do yourself a favor….do NOT Google it and definitely do NOT Google image it!!  I may or may not have made that mistake. 😉 )  Eventually I figured out it must have been from either this post or this one where I talk about the Wingman’s toenails developing in the womb.
  • “Looking down smiling and laughing.”  Not sure where this came from, either.
  • “Life with you blog Bonnie.”  Hmm….I’m guessing someone who knows us but couldn’t remember the link?
  • “We said i do, exchange vows…happy anniversary.”  Love the progression there.  🙂
  • Many variations of searches for posts on pilot training
  • “Discouraged on low carb.”  Aww, whoever you are, I’m sorry you were discouraged!  I really hope these posts (here, here, and here) helped encourage you!
  • “Praising the Lord with your thoughts and.”  Not sure what the end of that sentence was.  Hope they found what they were looking for!
  • “Ann Voskamp supports Romney Obama.”  It must have led them to this post.  Sorry I couldn’t help the searcher find an answer!
  • “My heart wants you.” And it led them here.  Aww, is our blog really that good?
  • “Christian response to false accusation.”  And many variations on that. Hopefully this post was helpful!
  • Various searches about waiting to get pregnant, PCOS, trusting God at the doctor’s office, etc. For all of you waiting to get pregnant, my heart aches with you, and you are in my prayers!!
  • “Amazing Race bridal shower.”  A while back I blogged about The Amazing Race.  Never thought about having it as a theme for my bridal shower, though!

Some of the searches made me laugh.  Some of them made me almost cry.  I hope that our blog can be an encouragement, whether you’re stopping by to find out about life at Laughlin, who Ann Voskamp supports for President, toe nail difficulties, bridal shower ideas, or encouragement for life’s difficulties!

What Does God Think of You? – “Some days I wake up feeling sorry for myself, but I shouldn’t……because Christ is never sorry for me.  He never sighs and shakes His head and thinks, ‘Man, saving Nicole…what a waste.’  No.  He sees me and thinks, ‘There she is, my beloved.  My daughter.  How I love her.'”

Marriage Isn’t For You – This has made the rounds on Facebook.  Marriage is about giving, not receiving.  I also appreciated this response to the post…marriage is for God.

Control – On attempting to control your husband.  “This speaks poorly of me, not of him!”

You’re a Stay at Home Mom?  What do you DO all day? – This post has also made the rounds on Facebook, but I thought it was worth sharing here as well.  I’m new to being a stay at home Mom, but this was already encouraging!

Dear Mom Who Feels Like She’s Not Cut Out for Motherhood – “God gave those little children to you, Mama – to YOU.  No one else can mother them like you can.  You may have your work cut out for you – and YOU’RE the one cut out to accomplish it.”

Burned Out Homemakers – So good!!  “We overthink homemaking.  We need to suck it up and get going, be strong in the Lord, and do our jobs!”
