Fall Into Reading: Update

It’s almost been three months since my Fall into Reading post.  I was originally going to post an update before our wedding….but let’s just say that the weeks leading up to our wedding were very busy.  And the post didn’t get written.  Obviously.  But here is a list of the books that I read since the post in October….

1. Beautiful in God’s Eyes by Elizabeth George

2. The Excellent Wife by Martha Peace

3. Intended for Pleasure by Ed Wheat, M.D. and Gaye Wheat

So…I got 2 out the original 12 checked off….plus one that wasn’t on the original list.  I am close to finishing Claim by Lisa Bergren and about 3/4ths of the way through Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis.  Hopefully I can get those two finished soon and then have 4 out of the original 12 checked off.

Hmm…maybe I shouldn’t make so many ambitious book goals right before my wedding?  😉

Booking Through Thursday

I recently came across the Booking Through Thursday site and thought it was pretty neat.  🙂

Today’s questions are:

Of the books you own, what’s the biggest category/genre?
Is this also the category that you actually read the most?

Hmm.  *scans bookshelves*  My biggest category would have to be my biography section.  Most of them are biographies on missionaries, but I do have several military ones, and a couple on the Donner Party.  (One of my favorite biographies was one I read several years ago…If God Should Choose by Kristen Stagg.)

But….currently most of the books I’m reading are not from this category.  I’ve been reading a lot of marriage books (hmm, I wonder why?) and a couple Christian fiction books.  I did have the goal to read through my whole biography shelf…but so far…hasn’t happened….   Someday.  🙂

Fall Into Reading

My sister Melinda posted recently about a reading challenge she is participating in.  I considered joining in on this challenge….but I think I’ve decided against it.  To be honest…I’m scared I wouldn’t make it!  Instead…I’m going to compile a list of books I want to read/finish reading before I get married.  That gives me a little less than three months to check off as many books as I can.

Which…basically is the essence of the reading challenge.  But somehow I feel like adding my name to the linky makes it more binding and scary.

So without further ado….my list of book reading goals for the next few months.  😀

1. The Excellent Wife by Martha Peace

2. The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie Omartian

3. Beautiful in God’s Eyes by Elizabeth George

4. Claim by Lisa T. Bergren

5. The Glamour of Grammar by Roy Peter Clark

6. The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis

7. Man of the Family by Ralph Moody

8. The Guerrillas Have Taken Our Son by Chad and Pat Stendal

9. A Thousand Shall Fall by Susi Hasel Mundy

10. The Attributes of God by A.W. Pink

11. A Woman’s Call to Prayer by Elizabeth George

12. The Practice of Godliness by Jerry Bridges

Hmm….that looks a little ambitious to me.  I’m not the fastest reader ever.  We shall see.  Expect a report in December….that may or may not look completely different from this list.

Since School…

So…what have I been doing since school let out last semester?  For one….I have been reading.  For fun!!!  What a nice change of pace.  😀  Here’s a sampling of what I’ve been reading…..

100 Amazing Answers to Prayer by William J. Petersen and Randy Petersen

Amazing Love by Corrie ten Boom

Audrey Hepburn, an Elegant Spirit by Sean Hepburn Ferrer

A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks

Flywheel by Eric Wilson

Hard Times by Charles Dickens

How to Live with a Neurotic Dog by Stephen Baker

Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton

To Love and to Cherish by Roy G. Gesch

I’m currently in the middle of about five other books as well.  It certainly is a good feeling to be able to read more than just school books.  (Not that I have anything necessarily against school books….I had some really good assigned reading for classes…but there’s something different about choosing your own book to read.  😉 )

Borders

Well, we’ve been home from our vacation for almost a week and a half…and we have been super busy!  Not only have I been trying to regain control over my google reader after being gone for two weeks, getting a lot of stuff done with The Pilot for our wedding, playing tennis for the first time (yay!), and starting to gear up for the class I’m teaching that starts in a few weeks….but….we went to Borders.

Although I am very sad that Borders stores are closing, I always love sales.  And book sales are amazing.  We left the store spending about $42…and we got a basket full of items ranging from 30-50% off.  I found several things that were perfect gifts…and The Pilot bought me a book I had my eye on.  I read this series when I was younger and loved it.  Since it’s hard to find good fiction, I was excited to see this 2-in-1 book at our store.

While browsing the shelves, I discovered a delightful book.  Honestly it made me so excited.  The title itself intrigued me…”The Glamour of Grammar” but when I looked at the table of contents, I got so excited.  Seriously…how can you not be excited about sections like, “Read dictionaries for fun and learning?”  Or “Learn seven ways to invent words?”  Or “Master the elliptical art of leaving things out?”  😉  I can’t wait to read this book (and another awesome one my Mom picked up for me!).

It’s always so fun to have new reading material!  Especially with such exciting books as these!  🙂
